MFWWC Science Pub – Floodplain Restoration: The Story of Staley Creek & Board Elections
March 13, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Rivers and streams are dynamic environments that are constantly changing. Or at least they should be. For the last 50 years, lower Staley Creek was static – confined to constructed berms that kept it channelized and didn’t allow water to flow out onto the floodplain. Thanks to a grant from the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board and Western Native Trout Initiative, as well as funding from the US Forest Service, we were able to restore a one mile section of lower Staley to a more natural condition, creating diverse habitat that will benefit fish and wildlife species and increase water storage.
Join our Restoration Projects Manager, and her partners at the US Forest service (Hydrologist, Lisa Kurian, and Fish Biologist, Matt Helstab) us as they share the story of why this project was needed, what this partnership means for the river, and how it will affect the overall health of the watershed. Come early and stay late as Hilltop has generously offered to donate 10% of all proceeds between 6pm and 9pm to the Middle Fork Willamette Watershed Council.
