Forest Fire in Oregon with James Johnston
July 30, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Fire is returning to wildlands of Oregon after a long absence. James Johnston will discuss current research about the historical extent of fire in Oregon, the future of wildfire in Oregon, and public lands management that will help Oregonians live with fire.
James is a Faculty Research Associate at OSU College of Forestry. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Oregon and a masters and PhD in Forest Science from Oregon State University. His research interests include fire ecology, dendroecology, restoration forestry, environmental law and policy, and collaborative governance. The Many Rivers Group has been participating with the Southern Willamette Forest Collaborative for the last several years. The collaborative’s current exciting project is the restoration of the 100,000-acre Rigdon between Oakridge and Willamette Pass. James Johnston is the leading resource on fire for the projects. James’ long research in the Cascade Forests is a wonderful resource for our decision making.
Come and hear James’ unique perspective of fire on the forest landscape. Doors will open at 6:30PM.
